Overland Expo Mountain West is coming up! If you're driving to the event here are some camping options for your route.
Overland Expo Mountain West is coming up fast! The overlanding event takes place in Loveland, Colorado August 27-29 and we are so thrilled to have this event back in-person again.
What is overlanding?
Overlanding is sometimes defined as ‘having as much esteem for the journey as the destination’, so if you’re travelling to OEMW by land then we hope you’re mapping out a good route! If so, check out our recommendations for camp areas that will let you see what Colorado and the Front Range has to offer off of the highway.
Coming from the North:
Curt Gowdy State Park: Located between Laramie and Cheyenne, WY, this state park offers mountain bike trails, fishing, paddleboarding and kayaking on the pristine reservoir waters while you enjoy the view of Twin Mountain in the background. If you prefer dispersed camping head just past the state park to the Vedauwoo area.
Coming from the West:
Buena Vista: Head south of Interstate 70 to check out a town that literally translates to ‘Good View’. Buzz up CO Rd 304 just east of town and find a number of dispersed camping spots with incredible views of the Arkansas River Valley and the Collegiate Peaks of the Rocky Mountains. There are hiking/mountain biking trails to take down into town for a bite or drink on the river, and the high elevation will hopefully keep the temperature more manageable in mid-August! The river is also renown for its white water rafting and fly fishing.
Coming from the South:
Lake Pueblo State Park: Arkansas Point Campground in Lake Pueblo State Park is a great spot overlooking the water just west of Pueblo. There’s 25 miles of paved bike paths and boat rentals at the dock right below you. The Arkansas River flows in and out of the reservoir so there are great fishing opportunities, and plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails accessible from camp.
